How to speed up or slow down a video

Attach the video and say the speed: "half speed", "slow motion", "2x" or "speed it up". Recut changes the speed anywhere from 0.25× to 4×, and changes the sound with it, keeping its pitch unless you ask otherwise.

What to typeMake this video 1.5x faster but keep the voice sounding normal.

Step by step

  1. Attach the videoAdd the clip to a Recut project.
  2. Say the speedGive a number (0.5, 1.5, 2) or words: slow motion, half speed, double speed, timelapse.
  3. Say what happens to the soundBy default the pitch stays the same. Say "let the pitch follow" for the deeper, slower sound or the higher, faster one.
  4. Run itSpeed changes run on your device at no model cost.

What Recut does

The picture is retimed and the sound is changed to match, so they stay in step. To keep the pitch, Recut changes only the tempo; it chains several tempo changes for big jumps, because each one can only halve or double.

Slowing a normal video down shows each frame for longer; it doesn't invent new frames in between. For smoother slow motion, raise the frame rate first with a video upscaling model that can add frames.

You can say the speed as a number or in words: 0.8 is 20% slower, 1.25 is a quarter faster, and "double speed" is 2. The plan shows the number Recut will use before it runs.
