How to trim the start or end of a video

Attach the video and say what to keep, for example "keep 0:05 to 0:42" or "cut the first 3 seconds". Recut can also cut at the speech for you: keep only the part before anyone speaks, from the first words on, or what follows the last words.

Just need to do it once? Try the free video resizer and trimmer: it runs in your browser, with no sign-up and no upload.

What to typeTrim this so it starts just before I start talking, and cut the last 4 seconds.

Step by step

  1. Attach the videoAdd the clip to a Recut project.
  2. Say what to keepUse times ("from 12 seconds to 1:05"), amounts ("cut the last 5 seconds") or the speech ("start at the first words").
  3. Check the timesThe plan shows the start and end Recut will use. Change them in the step if you want a different cut.
  4. Run itTrimming runs on your device at no model cost. The trimmed clip appears next to the original.

What Recut does

With times, Recut cuts the video down to the part between them. A negative start counts back from the end, so "keep the last 10 seconds" is a start of -10, and a negative end stops that many seconds before the end.

When you ask it to cut at the words, Recut transcribes the sound to find where the speech or singing really starts and ends, and leaves a little room (0.15 seconds) so the first sound isn't clipped. Transcription sometimes invents a stray word over music, so Recut treats the voice as starting at the first word that runs straight on into two more. That timing step uses a transcription model and costs a fraction of a cent.
