Recut

How to save a frame from a video as an image

Attach the video and ask Recut for the frame you want: "the frame at 12.5 seconds", or the first, middle or last frame. Recut saves it as a PNG, which keeps every pixel, or a smaller JPG.

What to typeSave the frame at 0:08 as a JPG for the thumbnail.

Step by step

  1. Attach the videoAdd the clip to a Recut project.
  2. Say which frameA time in seconds, or first, middle or last.
  3. Say the formatPNG (the default) keeps full quality; JPG is smaller.
  4. Run itIt runs on your device with no model cost. The image appears next to the video.

What Recut does

Recut moves the video to the time you give and saves that frame at the video's full size.

The last frame is useful when you make videos with AI: give the last frame of one clip to an image-to-video model as the start of the next clip, and the two join without a jump. Recut plans this itself when you ask for a longer video made of several generated clips.

For video files the built-in player can't open, Recut takes the frame with ffmpeg instead, so unusual formats work too. A JPG is saved at high quality, which is plenty for a thumbnail.
